Southside Chess

This past weekend the Southside Chess Club was treated with a special guest International Master and Canadian Champion IM Liam Henry. Mr. Liam Henry is one of Canadas top Masters who actively competes in local, national and international tournaments. On Sunday February 23, 2014 seven boards where setup with Liam controlling the black peices on the table. Players ratings raged from 900 to 2000 with a few kids, teens and young adults. The final score for Liam was 6 wins and 1 draw. As part of our donation the club also helped support the Sick Kids hospital with a small donation. Thank you to all the members who came out for a challenge.

 

Southside Chess is a back this year in full effect starting Sunday January 5th, at 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Located in Studio B at Southside Muay Thai Academy, we will be started with an instructional thirty minute lesson followed by a standard fourty five minute time control game. All levels or experience are welcome and all members of the club are encouraged to join in on the fun.

This past weekend on Sunday November 24th, 2013 the Southside chess club held its third tournament which consisted of 12 players. The tournament consisted of seven rounds with fifteen minute time controls, with no sudden death. The winner of the tournament was the young and talented Mark Mendoza with a score of 5.5/7. Congradulations Mark on this great achievement!

This past year we had some tempoprary adjustments with the program as we have upgraded our location and program. After two successful tournaments with the Mayhem on Midland Series, we hope to bring more enjoyable tournaments this coming 2014. Thank you for your continued support and patients.
